I AM THE CANDIDATE WHO
HAS DONE HER HOMEWORK
TO EARN YOUR VOTE AS A
KYRENE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER
A 17-year proven track record of working with Kyrene parents, teachers, and administrators in every school in the District.
I have volunteered my time and
skills because I truly care, I value education, and I enjoy working to help all students achieve their best.
A Kyrene School Board member needs to
-> work collaboratively with all
those affected by decisions
-> listen AND respond effectively
and consistently
-> have a thorough understanding
of District programs, policies,
procedures, and the issues.
I AM THE candidate with the balance of experience & skills in Kyrene, as well as the education
& professional experience in
our community to be a
PREPARED
RESPONSIVE
INFORMED
PROACTIVE
EFFECTIVE
INVOLVED
Kyrene School Board member.
My work and experience in Kyrene has included serving the last six years on elementary & middle school Site Councils -- working with parents, teachers and principals on school issues, and helping make decisions on school improvement and allocating resources.
I have served the past two years on the Parent Superintendent Council --meeting every month with District administrators and parents from each school in the District --discussing school issues, brainstorming new ideas, and communicating the information back to our school community.
I have served four years as a
parent member of the
K-8 Programming Study Committee -- gaining a valuable system-wide perspective by working regularly with all stakeholder groups -- parents, teachers, support staff, and administrators -- to study, review, and evaluate District programs and services, including curriculum, student assessment, the budget, resource allocation, student achievement, equity, facilities maintenance, Gifted Resources,
the Middle School Model, Signature Programs, open enrollment, and many other important programs and issues.
When I don’t understand something, I actively seek information and research. I always solicit opinions and feedback.
I AM PASSIONATE
about quality education
for all Kyrene students!
This area has been my home for over 30 years.
After graduating from
Corona del Sol High School in 1981, I studied Education and Child & Family Studies at M.C.C. and A.S.U. I've been married 25 years and raised our three children through Kyrene schools. This area will always be our home and I care about our Kyrene community.
For most of the past 25 years,
I've worked part-time from a home office, balancing family and work. For 15 of those years, I wrote good news about the people in our community, including students and teachers, small business owners, community events, and reported on consumer issues as a local freelance journalist. For several years I was active in Entreprenurial Mothers Association and worked with local small business owners in marketing, PR, and media relations. Since 2003, I've studied real estate and managed my rental properties.
I've worked for many years with neighborhood associations and youth in Tempe and Chandler, and volunteered time with my children
in a variety of local community service projects.
I completed the Chandler City Services Academy in 2002 and the
Chandler Non-Profit Leadership Training in 2007.

Communication is a key to success.
As a Kyrene School Board member, I can expand my consistent practice to communicate with our community.
I will always be approachable, respond, and follow-up.
As a mom, I know parents want the best for their children, but we don’t always have the extra time, resources, or easy access to the necessary information.
It is my passion and mission to be an ambassador for Kyrene education -- to promote new and improved ways for two-way communication and more opportunties for feedback -- so
when parents and the community don't have easy access to information in the traditional ways, they aren't left out of the loop!
"America’s future walks through the doors of our schools each day."
-Mary Jean LeTendre
As your Kyrene School Board member, I commit to working every day to honor that sentiment -- so truly, not one child in Kyrene is left behind.
There are important issues that require our attention in Kyrene.
We are facing changes and challenges and we need consistent evaluation of programs and services to be sure we're best serving the diverse needs of our students.
We are fortunate to have
dedicated and highly qualified teachers, support staff, and administrators in Kyrene -- working every day to provide the best education for our children.
As a community, we need to support our teachers with higher salaries, the best resources, and professional respect.
As a 30+ year resident involved in our schools and community, I've experienced Kyrene's history.
I understand the factors of declining enrollment, our economy, and the needs of our diverse population --
I have the experience, skills, and knowledge to address the issues
and make informed decisions.
An excellent school district has a significant positive impact on our community --> educated citizens,
the best employers and employment opportunities, a desireable real estate market, and an involved community.
I will promote Kyrene as a model
and mentor to other school districts!
